Open Question: Once again the 1995 Grand Cherokee Jeep?
Well it has now left the original mechanic and has gone to a more rekiable source. HE WILL get to the bottom of it I understand he has the equipment for Chrysler etc. BUT having said that yesgterday the original mechanic drove it to me I shut it off–it started an hour itself, stopped on way hme it started again itself after sitting for 1/2 hr, left it for 4 hours went out at 11 pm last night and it again started for me 1st time. This morning at 5 am WELL GUESS WHAT NO START it has now been towed to a well established mechanic. He wants to go the route of checking the wires to the pump first, it is not the ignition according to the original mechanic but all will be checked. I want to thank everyone who has been in touch with me through all of this and I have been asked to keep you posted and I certainally will. It has been a rough two weeks it wil be interesting to all what becomes of all of this.

As part of a $4 billion turnaround plan, Chrysler in December 2000 demanded an immediate 5 percent price cut from suppliers on parts already in production. It also told suppliers it would work with them to cut another 10 percent over the following two years, saving a total of $6 billion.

Richard Schaum, Chrysler’s executive vice president of product development and quality, said that new parts could not cost more than ones they were replacing — meaning they would have to cost 15 percent less than their predecessors did when the price-cut program was launched. Schaum also said Chrysler was looking for further price reductions of up to 24 percent to absorb the cost of several new government rules covering areas such as side-impact resistance, air bag and tire safety and engine pollution.
“We never talk about the fact that in an environment of negative net pricing we have to offset regulatory costs as well,” Schaum said.
Auto parts makers have been vocal with automakers over their demands for ever-lower prices. Several protested Chrysler’s first demand for a 5 percent price cut, and Chrysler has said suppliers that did not work with the company would lose its business.
Earlier this year, Chrysler announced it was cutting its vehicle development budget for the next five years by $12 billion to $30 billion, but adding more models. Schaum said the company had made its spending more efficient.
Chrysler is sharing the development costs of the next-generation of its small and mid-size cars with Mitsubishi Motors Corp., while borrowing parts from Mercedes for other vehicles. Where Chrysler used to spend more than $1 billion on an all-new vehicle, Schaum said many vehicle programs were now running between $150 million and $500 million.
Some of the savings will come from designing fewer all-new parts. “To the customer, they’re getting an all-new vehicle,” Schaum said.
Chrysler recorded a profit of $125.9 million before one-time items in the first quarter. Chrysler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche said a “very pleasant” second quarter would allow Chrysler to post a profit before one-time charges this year, echoing comments made by DaimlerChrysler Chairman Juergen Schrempp.
