Muscle Cars: Old Generation or New?
Filed Under Chrysler News | Comments Off
Ford was the first of the Big Three American car makers to introduce a car that would bring them back to a time when they were one of the leaders in the automotive world. Chrysler has announced that they plan to be the next and GM has unveiled plans for a retro vehicle as well. Ford had initially done this retro thing via the Ford Thunderbird but that was not considered a

2006 Dodge Charger: Pure Emotion!
Filed Under Chrysler News | Comments Off
You have got to hand it to Daimler Chrysler, the company behind the successful launch this summer of the 2006 Dodge Charger: the car hearkens back to the glory days of pure Dodge power while successfully incorporating the latest technologies from the German American automaker. One of the biggest names in the muscle car era has returned with a vengeance: the Dodge Charger.
When Daimler and Chrysler merged in 1998, many Mopar fans felt that an important era in American automobile manufacturing had abruptly come to an end. Indeed, the venerable maker of Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles would no longer be controlled exclusively from their Detroit base. Instead, the German manufacturer of luxury Mercedes automobiles would set the course and steer the company in the direction they wanted it to go. Or so it seemed.
Fortunately, what started out as a rocky marriage between a pair of perceived unequals has resulted in offspring that are, well, cool! It took several years for the relationship to get on track and that became evident with the release of the Chrysler 300M and Dodge Magnum vehicles. Both cars have performed very strongly since their release in 2004 and have literally set the ground work for a successful launch of the Dodge Charger earlier this year. The Charger is based on the same platform of the 300M/Magnum and was originally meant to have been a sedan version of the Magnum. Instead, Dodge gave the car its own personality.
Alright, enough of the background. Let

DaimlerChrysler: Merger or Acquisition?
Filed Under Chrysler News | Comments Off
In 1998 Daimler-Benz and the Chrysler Corporation tied the knot. The newly created DaimlerChrysler [DCX] conglomerate was touted in the business world as a merger of equals with both companies retaining their unique and distinct identities. Soon after the merger the honeymoon period abruptly ended and the rancor began. Diametrically opposite management and cultural differences contributed to deep divisions which nearly scuttled the new relationship. Today, things are much different than they were in 1998; however it remains to be seen whether the long term partnership between the German and American automakers will outlast the deep, mutual distrust that prevailed for so many years.
A changing global automobile market during the final decade of the 20th century signaled the end of small, independent automakers. Although fairly large in size, the Chrysler Corporation, which nearly vanished in the early 1980s, was once again nearing a crisis point: a rapidly changing market meant that large amounts of cash would be needed to keep their product line up to date as well as to take their product to emerging and lucrative new markets. Unlike in the early 1980s when the US federal government stepped in with much needed cash, no government suitor was expected this time around. For Chrysler, the long term strategy strongly suggested that the automaker would have to be acquired in order to survive. In stepped Daimler-Benz.
At first, the merger was hailed as the deal of the century. The combined automakers, roughly the same size, quickly became the fifth largest automaker in the world. Combining German engineering

Will Renault Return to the U.S.?
Filed Under Chrysler News | Comments Off
Back during the 1980s Renault cars, in alliance with the now defunct American Motors Company [AMC], were sold at American dealers. Once Chrysler purchased AMC, Renault retreated and quit selling cars in the US. A recent announcement by Renault that the U.S. market may once again be a candidate for Renault cars has been met with only tepid enthusiasm by the automotive press. Will Renault return? More importantly: does anyone care?
Renault’s exit from the US during the late 1980s was hardly noticed by most consumers. As makers of the tiny LeCar, the compact Alliance, and the midsize Medallion/Eagle Premier, not much distinguished Renault from the competition.
